Retraction, Withdrawal, and Archiving Policy

Retraction, Withdrawal, and Archiving Policy Borneo Akademika (BA) adheres to the COPE Retraction Guidelines, which state that journal editors should consider retracting a publication if there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to misconduct (such as data fabrication) or honest error (like miscalculation or experimental mistakes). Additionally, a publication may be retracted if the findings have been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (this is known as redundant publication). Cases of plagiarism and unethical research practices may also lead to retraction. BA aims to digitally archive all published articles, especially those from the National Library of Malaysia. All BA articles will be deposited at the National Repository under the Deposit of Library Material Act 1986.

Articles Retraction occurs due to unintentional errors and ethical misconduct. Unintentional errors include using incorrect data and employing an inappropriate method or data analysis. Ethical misconduct occurs because of the use of fraudulent data or plagiarised works.

The authors can request article retractions if they notice errors they made in their published articles or in someone else’s articles that warrant retraction. In such cases, you exercise your ethical obligation to contact the journal immediately via email. In your email, include the following details:

  • Article information: Provide information such as title, authors and publication date
  • Concern with the article: Highlight the errors you notice
  • Reasoning: provide reasons why you think the errors are concerning

Authorship disputes can lead to retraction. For instance, when individuals were listed as authors on a published manuscript, but their involvement or consent was not made known to them.

Copyright infringement can lead to retraction. Suppose a manuscript reproduces figures that were previously published in another manuscript and/or journal without the consent of the original publisher. In that case, it is a violation of Copyright and could result in the retraction of the manuscript.
