Reviewing Process
Pre-screening is an initial inspection conducted by the Managing Editor of Borneo Akademika. This process is performed immediately after the authors submit their manuscripts. Manuscripts that do not meet the requirements of a standard academic rigour will be desk-rejected. The Editor-in-Chief decides whether to send the manuscript for peer review or to desk reject it.Borneo Akademikahas specific requirements for manuscript submissions, such as word count, formatting, and referencing style. Failing to meet these requirements may result in the rejection of an academic manuscript.
Additionally, flawed research design, weak or flawed analysis, and inaccurate or inconsistent data can also result in desk rejections.
The Peer Review Process of Borneo Akademikais a rigorous evaluation process by independent experts in a similar field. This process is conducted after the paper has been pre-screened. The Chief Editor will then assign the reviewers. The review process of Borneo Akademika is double blind. Peer reviewer identities are anonymous to the authors and vice versa. This anonymity is intended to promote fairness and minimise the risk of conscious or unconscious bias from both reviewers and authors.
Borneo Akademika's Chief Editor and Editorial Board are responsible for selecting the manuscripts for publication. Borneo Akademika follows COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and Conduct for Journal Publishers as the standard practices to maintain accountability.
Review Procedure Timeline: A decision about submissions that an editor rejects during the initial screening process is typically sent out one to two months after the submission. After being rejected, submissions will typically receive a decision from the Chief Editor within one month. Despite our objective of providing authors with decisions within three months, even when submissions are sent to outside reviewers, the review process may take longer than three months because it requires time to find qualified reviewers. A decision on the amended manuscript is occasionally made within less than three months for papers that were initially rejected but then invited to resubmit. The editors kindly request that authors refrain from contacting the journal office regarding the status of their manuscript if it has been fewer than three months since its submission (or resubmission).
Total Time from Initial Submission to Final Publication: The average time from initial submission to final acceptance is approximately two to four months. However, this can vary significantly depending on the speed of external reviewers, the number of revision rounds required, and the time the author dedicates to revisions. After final acceptance, the majority of papers are published within five months.
